At Home in the
Tropics Bed & Breakfast is located at 1680 Dronningens Gade,
Kings Quarter, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Located on
Blackbeard's Hill, the Inn overlooks the entire harbor of Charlotte Amalie
and the Caribbean Sea beyond.
It was built in c. 1803 and was originally the barracks for the
personal guard of Danish colonial Governor Peter von Scholten, whose
St Thomas residence,
Crown House,
is directly above us.
(He was the one who freed the
slaves here.)
This little courtyard property has been completely and tastefully
restored
into a bright and airy hideaway in the midst of the many elegant
mansions
and gardens of the St. Thomas historic district. |

Guest Areas include:
Living room, dining room and covered gallery at
front of house. This area has an honor bar, lending
library, wireless internet access, and complimentary
coffee, tea and snacks
Swimming pool, sun deck with chaise lounges, covered sun
deck with chaise lounges, and upper deck with umbrella
tables at back of house. Also on upper deck are personal
mini fridges, microwave, blender and a bar sink for the use of our guests. |

Guests have their own key to the locked gate for this courtyard
property. The gate opens onto Government House Steps - connecting
Blackbeard's Hill above us with, going down, Government House and
its garden, the historic Frederick Lutheran Church, and our oldest
structure, Fort Christian, at the port. These stairs are an easy way
to access the central historic district with its shopping and dining
and ferry boats to St. John, St. Croix and Tortola.
Because the property is small and the pool is deep, children under
12 are discouraged.
Teens and above are welcome.
This is a non-smoking facility. However, smoking is allowed in the
umbrella table area overlooking the pool.
Pam serves breakfast every morning in the living room - dining
room - gallery area.
