Driving on St Thomas

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

Do you enjoy adventure? Do you like roller coasters? Do you enjoy wandering and do you handle getting lost a bit? These are all questions you may want to ask yourself if you are planning on driving in the USVI.

We are a US territory so we drive American style cars with the driver on the left, but we also drive on the left hand side of the road (it's not wrong, it's just left). Road signs are few and far between and there are an abundance of potholes. Many of our narrow roads are right on the edge of a mountain. It makes for great views - for the passengers.

Due to the above, many of our guests choose to take taxis around the island. Taxis are abundant and generally on time and reliable. However, they may not take you to the more remote beaches and areas of the island, and they charge per person and per trip. Therefore, if you are an adventurous traveler and don't mind making the occasional U-turn, renting a car can let you see more of the island & take you to some awesome off the beaten path places. If you plan to stick to the more popular beaches, restaurants and activities taxis are a very convenient way to enjoy your vacation.

As always, we are here to answer your specific questions related to travel and getting around the island. You can always email us if you have any specific areas you want to visit or activities you want to try.
